TRAVEL NARRATIVES AS SOURCES FOR A POST-COLONIAL HISTORY CURRICULUM
The article deals with possibilities of teaching history that could open up non-European and postcolonial perspectives. Following an outline of the current state of research in history didactics, the essay presents an exemplary examination of two current history textbooks with regard to these perspectives. Finally, the
travelogues of the 19th-century African explorer Heinrich Barth are considered as a tool to critically question the objectivity of historiography. The arguments are illustrated in a lesson plan.
